UMaine IMRC Fabrication Labs

As the Interim Director of the IMRC for the current academic year and the supervisor of the IMRC Fab Labs for the past 3 years, I have established the following programs / projects:

  • Updated and restructured the IMRC website and social media sites with a focus on intuitive user based exploration and increased awareness of our various programs / facilities:  www.imrccenter.com
  • Established University mandated equipment & safety training for all current fab lab employees including working with our lab manager to develop SOP’s / safety training documents for all fab lab equipment and users
  • Developed a new IMRC Textile lab for both analog and digital creative exploration
  • Developed a community account system allowing students, faculty and outside community members to sign up for training and safety classes that will allow them to work regularly in the IMRC fab labs http://imrcaccounts.com/
  • Established discounted equipment use rates for all New Media & Intermedia students.
  • Tripled our community account holder base in two years.
  • Optimized  and reorganized the lab spaces to create a more intuitive work flow between similar equipment.
  • Secured funding for new equipment including two more 3D printers (Form Labs and Lulzbot Taz5)
  • Helped to create a network of undergraduate, graduate and faculty support for IMRC freelance projects, paying student contractors by the project and creating a new income stream for the facility.
  • Developed a check in and evaluation process for all employees’ annual job reviews
  • Formulated a clear and concise description of job duties for all IMRC employees
  • Scheduled weekly staff / lab meetings and clear lines of communication for all IMRC employees
