IMRC Fabrication Labs

As the supervisor of the IMRC Fab Labs for the past 15 months I have established the following programs / projects:

  • Updated and restructured the IMRC website with a focus on intuitive user based exploration:  www.imrccenter.com
  • Established University mandated equipment & safety training for all current fab lab employees including working with our lab manager to develop SOP’s / safety training documents for all fab lab equipment and users
  • Scheduled weekly staff meetings for all fab lab and IMRC employees
  • Developed a clearly communicated chain of command (director>supervisor>manager>employee) including a new evaluation process for all employees’ annual job reviews
  • Formulated a clear and concise description of job duties for all IMRC fab lab employees
  • Developed a community account system allowing students, faculty and outside community members to sign up for training and safety classes that will allow them to work regularly in the IMRC fab labs (http://www.imrccenter.com/fab-lab-member-info/)
  • Established discounted equipment use rates for all New Media & Intermedia students.
  • Tripled our community accounts in two semesters of class.
  • Optimized  and reorganized the lab spaces to create a more intuitive work flow between similar equipment.
  • Secured funding for two more 3D printers (Form Labs and Type A Machines)
  • Helped to create a network of undergraduate, graduate and faculty support for IMRC freelance projects, paying student contractors by the project and creating a new income stream for the facility.
